All For One and One For All: Together we can create a brighter future.
There is no denying that we are at the mercy of our Mother Earth. With the most recent effects felt from the polar vortex in places such as Illinois, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa and results are chilling. Scientist believe the warming of our Arctic sea ice is weakening the polar vortex which is now allowing cold blasts to fall from the Arctic across to North America along with Russia and Europe. Have you ever wondered what you can do to help the longevity of our Earth?
Flash back to the past.
Let’s go back to the 60s and 70s, it was not just an era of change and the memorable hits of John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and so much more but it was also the boom of environment awareness. In 1969 the US Senior of Wisconsin witnessed the horrible aftermath of a massive oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara. The following year on April 22, 1970 Earth Day was born. On this day 20 million Americans gather together in peaceful protest for a healthier sustainable environment. The want for sustainability was unanimous from coast to coast.
The New Age
As the years passed and the millennium approached there started a new worry which we know now as global warming and the push for clean energy became more apparent. Global warming is caused by trapped gasses such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2) that are unable to escape the earth’s atmosphere. The concentrated levels of CO2 have risen approximately one third since the Industrial Revolution began. A major known leading cause to the CO2 increase is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil. As we know in order for power plants to generate energy, they have to burn a fuel source such as coal, oil, and other natural gasses which create steam to power large turbines. This process generates massive amounts of CO2 that is then released into our atmosphere which is struggles to escape in return increasing the Earths temperature.
It has been found that since about the 1700’s the amount of energy radiating off of the sun has either remained consistent or has slightly increased. As technology advances and expands so do our option on how and where we obtain our energy. There are many ways to help our earths preservation and one major contribution is clean green energy and minimizing the CO2 output on Earth or also referred to as a carbon footprint.
