Happy Arbor Day!

Here at the Nevada Conservation League, we love taking action on all the days that honor our planet -like National Arbor Day happening TODAY! This is a great time to inspire people across our state to take action, especially as we tackle important conservation bills this legislative session.

Have you heard of AB 131? It’s this session’s tree hugger bill! What better way to celebrate National Arbor Day than to work on planting more trees? Now more than ever, we need a bill like this one. By 2050, the typical number of heatwave days in Nevada is projected to increase from 15 to nearly 55 days a year, which would intensify the urban heat island effect that is already hurting vulnerable Nevadans.

It will create the Urban and Community Forestry Program which would identify, support, and maintain urban and community forestry initiatives across Nevada.

It will focus on historically underserved communities most impacted by the dangers of urban heat islands.

It will beautify neighborhoods and plant desert resilient trees that are less water-intensive.

It will help reduce particulate pollution that leads to health ailments and create a healthier and safer environment.
