IKEA is the perfect place to grab some of the best Swedish meatballs while you shop low-price furniture options. They have over 250 stores worldwide and 51 locations in North America and plan to open a new location in Las Vegas the summer of 2016. IKEA is able to sell their products for 20 to 30 percent cheaper than competitors mainly to their minimalist designing and packaging. The Las Vegas Location has begun construction and earlier today IKEA announced that the facility will utilize solar panels to run its energy.

The installation will begin this winter and hopes to be completed in spring of 2016 and will be the largest single-use rooftop solar array in Nevada. The complete solar array utilizes 3,620 panels and will span over 240,504 square-foot area. This array will be a 1.4-megawatt system that will be able to produce 1.75 million kilowatts of electricity annually. To put it in terms for the environment, a solar array of this magnitude will eliminate 1,207 tons of carbon dioxide gas. This is equivalent to the emissions produced by 254 cars or the amount of electricity it takes to power 166 homes for a year.

IKEA is not new to the solar industry. Currently, over 90 percent of U.S. locations use solar panels to power their stores. The Las Vegas location will be the 43rd project for the leader in furniture retail. IKEA does not utilize a leasing option when it comes to solar panels, they purchase and own each of its solar photovoltaics on the tops of their stores. They have allocated an estimated 1.9 billion through 2015 to invest in the use of renewable energy options.
