The United States had a record-breaking 2024, and that success is reflected in the installation numbers on the 2025 Top Solar Contractors List released today by Solar Power World. The No. 1 contractor installed more than 10 GW last year, a remarkable feat that represents 20% of the entire market in 2024.
The country installed nearly 50 GW of new solar capacity in 2024, the largest single year of new capacity added to the grid by any energy technology in over two decades. Quanta Services, a conglomerate of heavy-hitting installation companies including Ampacity, Blattner Energy, Cupertino Electric and The Ryan Company, completed solar projects in 32 states last year for a total of 10.1 GW — and 4.3 GWh of energy storage — to take the No. 1 spot on the 2025 Top Solar Contractors List.
“We knew 2024 would be an impressive year for our utility-scale contractors, especially when 16 GW came online in Q4 alone,” said Kelly Pickerel, editor in chief of Solar Power World. “But even more impressive was how successfully local markets closed the year, especially as the residential market was hit by the bad PR that comes with big-name companies closing shop. Americans want and need solar, and the Top Solar Contractors are more than capable of delivering.”
Installations by Top Solar Contractors were recorded in every state — even North Dakota, which is regularly last in the nation (even behind Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico) for annual installations. This year should also end on a high note as installation companies continue to complete the necessary energy projects that will keep the increasingly strained national electric grid functioning. As the federal government attempts to topple the growing solar industry — which is far outpacing any new fossil fuel production — the thousands of Americans employed at Top Solar Contractor companies will continue the fight against climate change and misinformed government leaders.
“Regardless of how the solar and storage industries are reflected in legislative language, there’s enough momentum behind clean energy to keep things moving in 2025. Solar Power World is looking forward to the 2026 Top Solar Contractors List that will celebrate the tenacity of solar contractors working through this tough year,” Pickerel said. “But right now, we’re celebrating the incredible accomplishments performed by solar installation companies across the country in the last year. Congratulations to the 2025 Top Solar Contractors, and thank you for your dedication to this great industry.”
The Top Solar Contractors List is the most recognized annual listing of solar contractors in the United States. Companies on the Top Solar Contractors List are grouped and listed by specific service (developer, electrical subcontractor, EPC, installation subcontractor, installer, sales partner), market (commercial, community solar, residential, utility) and states by 2024 installed capacity (in kWDC).
